Meera Bai was born in the kingdom of Mewar as the princess.. From her childhood, she was very devoted to Krishna. She spent her day in the service of the lord. She was a spiritual practitioner of Madhura Bhava and that’s why she thought him as her husband. She had a unique capability of writing beautiful bhajans and singing them. By the time, She was a teenager, she was married to the prince of Chitor — Bhojraj, but even then, she didn’t accept Bhojraj as her husband.
Amidst all the daily works she
Continuously worshipped the Divine form of Shri Krishna in her heart. and also spent a lot of time in the worship and service to the d
deity of Shri Krishna. But, very naturally, Oppositions started to rise head in her in-laws’ land.
Amidst all of these, Meera remained quiet and calm and engaged in her own spiritual practice.
One night her material husband called and asked about her desire. Meera replied with a self-composed bhajan ——
Only Giridhari Gopal is mine
Who carries the crown of the
feather of peacock in his head, only he is my lord.
Bhojraj established a temple of Lord Krishna for Meera. There, Meera was always engaged in singing, listening to engaged, the saints and discussing about the lord.
Within few years, her material husband left his body, but Meera, whose whole heart was already dedicated to the lotus feet of Shri Krishna, remained unmoved. The then new ruler of Chitor was Meera’s brother-in-law. He was soaked in the material desires always. He played different tricks to enjoy the material body of Meera, but every time he failed. He started to block Meera’s Spiritual journey, in many ways.
Atlast to lead a peaceful
life in the dwelling places of Lord Krishna, she left the palace. She visited Sri Vrindavan Dham — the eternal place of Krishna’s divine play. In the last few years her life, Meerabai stayed in the temple of Sri of Ranchhorji in Dwarka. And there, one day she was immersed in the divine form of her deity.
